Lose yourself in La Granja 30 October 2007

After a lot of renovations, a big part of the gardens of La Granja have been reopened, including the labyrinth. La Granja in this time of the year is beautiful and you are sure to like the autumn scenery. As you walk from fountain to fountain you walk through a rainbow of colors on the trees. Most of the fountains are already turned off, but in the summer they give a sure spectacle. The bronze sculptures themselves are amazing and show of epic spectacles! It’s pity that a part of the gardens is still closed but when you see how the fountains that already have been renewed look shinier and prettier than ever, you are more than willing to wait another few months for the other fountains. You can find more pictures from La Granja at this time of the year in the online album. From Segovia you can go to La Granja and back for no more than € 2,16 with the Sepulvedana. It’s only half an hour of travelling.
Riots in Basc country 16 October 2007

My first Blog on Tu Pantalla Diaria is about the Bask riots this friday in San Sebastian. It happened to be so that we were there on this very moment. We spent hours in trafic in the city because of the hooded youngsters causing amock. They were doing this because the Basc police was helping the Spanish Falange, the nationalists of Spain. The police tried to stop the anti-fascism concert the youngsters were having because they posed a threat for the Falange-reunion. As a reaction to this, hell broke loose in San Sebastian. The police was seriously outnumberd and it took hours to regain peace. As we walked around in the coast city, a lot of glass was still on the floor and many buildings were visibly attacked…
Earlier that day we saw a manifest in Pamplona too, were the ANV, the socialistic nationalistic Basc party, gave a speech. They are running in the elections coming march for the state. They want to reunite the original Basc country: El País Vasco in Spain, Pays Basques in France and Navarra in Spain too. The difference is that they want to do it the way that the law provides. If you get enough votes, this might happen, in a peaceful and lawful way. It’s a pity that thing like in San Sebastian happen, but on the other hand, it reminds us of what an actual war might mean. We get reminded of the usefulness of our democratic state. Gotta look on the bright side.

My blog Erasmus begins here in my class Sistemas Multimedia in Segovia en la universidad SEK. All my articles I have to write for SEK or home will eventually end up here. It may not be updated daily, but I’ll put something of interest here every week at least. It will be about my experiences in Spain as a student Erasmus. I’m from Belgium, and I already see how there is great difference between the two countries. I got my culture shock without expecting it. After all, “it’s still a western country!”
The most important thing I’ve learned up untill now:
No pasa nada, no te preocupes.
“It’s O-kay, don’t worry”
